I never realised how heavy slate is until last saturday when we went to pick up some slate from a house in Banagher. We picked up about 500 slates, we being Mauricio and myself and our two boys, shane and miguel. Each slate must have weighed 3 kgs each so we carried home about 1500 kgs along the bog road. Needless to say we went very slowly and felt every bump and believe me there are lots of bumps on that road.
Well actually I will now admit that I didnt carry not even a single slate that day as I was too busy talking to the people of the big house while the three boys set to. So I would be lying if I said that my arms are none the better for all that weight lifting. I do feel a little guilty but sure someone has to do the talking!!!
