The Textures and Colours That Emerge Out Of Our Repurposed Slate

It's the textures and colours that emerge out of our repurposed slate that make Heartworks' pieces unique.  Of course this detail and refinery on the slate didn't come about overnight.  It is the result of years of working with slate, finding its unique features and then honouring them with an angle grinder, an oil paint, a rag, a brush, relief paint, a chisel and pure dedication to the craft.

Here are some examples of the kind of textures and colours that seem to magically emanate from the slate.  Of course, it's not magic at all.  It's as a result of Mauricio's skills. This slate would have been up on the houses of Irish fine houses, churches, and even castles for centuries.  They, these slates, have seen it all, have a wealth of memories to share and they seem to scream what they have witnessed.  This is all done through Mauricio and his tools. Mauricio and the slate seem to synchronise and become one story teller.  They respect each other and cooperate with each other.  Mauricio seems to know how far to go when chiseling into the slate and when carving out lines and curves on the slate (he has very few breakages). He also uses colours that will only enhance the beautiful features already present in the slate and the features he creates along the way.  The slate in turn, seems to guide Mauricio in what he should do with that particular piece of itself.  It's almost as if the slate knows, once Mauricio's work is done, that it will have a new purpose in life, one that will make it shine and glow for many years to come and have its gazers in awe
