Why use nettles in shampoo?

Heartworks make natural soaps and shampoos using only the finest ingredients and without any artificial additives or colouring or fragrances.  We have two shampoo bars (see photos) that we add nettles to.  Why add nettles to the shampoo, do I hear your ask?

Nettles can help in the treatment of hair loss and prevent if falling out.  Not only does stinging nettle help in combating hair loss, it also helps in hair re-growth. Nettle leaves are rich in silica and sulfur. This helps in making hair shinier and healthier. Rinsing hair with nettle extracts and water results in re-growth of lost hair and also helps in restoring the original hair color.

Below is a recipe with instructions for use of a nettle hair tonic

Nettle Hair Tonic Recipe
Create a nettle infusion by simmering a handful of either young nettes or 1 oz. of dried nettles in 4 cups of water for at least 2 hours or overnight in a saucepan on a low heat. Strain out nettles and add:
1/4 cup vinegar
3 drops rosemary oil
Bottle in a dark colored glass bottle or jar and keep in the refrigerator between uses.
To use, saturate the scalp with the infusion every other night or pour the tonic on wet hair after shampooing. Rub in well. Do not rinse out in order to maximize the effect of this nettle hair tonic.
